Our Priorities

Showing you 1 to 6 of 6 ideas of our priorities
A Dark Sky Community
Gower's starry night skies are a special treat. And it's not just nice to look at either - studies have shown that it is important for wildlife, good for our health, and good for local tourism. The Gower AONB Partnership (the elected advisory group which helps manage the AONB) has discussed a report about Gower's Dark Skies, and about a possible Dark Sky designation. Maybe you saw the recent press articles on this - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-south-west-wales-43576560 ? What do you think about Gower becoming a Dark Sky Community?

Provide a wheelchair/pram-friendly route to Caswell
There are no current footpaths suitable for wheelchairs/prams. This would be a great addition to the community.

Actif Woods Swansea.
Actif Woods Wales (AWW) is a programme of Small Woods Association (known in Wales as Coed Lleol), a national charity supporting better management of woodlands for people and the environment. AWW has been running woodland activities for health & wellbeing in a number of locations across Wales since 2010. Our approach is one of partnership, working closely with local delivery partners from the environmental sector, and with the health sector and other social care organisations to ensure that people most at need are referred to our programmes. Our programmes include a system of monitoring and evaluation, and participants have shown clear improvements to health and wellbeing of participants in all programmes.

This project will work in partnership with the Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales, and Swansea and Neath Port Talbot Forest School. We will deliver woodland activities for health and wellbeing, and volunteer training courses at a number of sites within the rural wards of Swansea, with expected outcomes:
1. Improved management of greenspace sites for biodiversity and amenity value
2. Greater community cohesion and participation through volunteering and gaining new skills
3. Improved health and wellbeing of members of the community with poor health and sedentary lifestyles
4. Improved skills of volunteers, participants and activity leaders

Swansea NPT Forest School will lead on programmes of activities for families with young children, which will focus on physical activity, group engagement in games and skill learning, with an additional focus on nutrition and healthy eating taught mainly through campfire cooking and food foraging.
Wildlife Trust will lead on provision of Agored certified training courses for volunteers, in partnership with Coed Lleol who are registered as an Agored training centre.
