Our Priorities

Showing you 1 to 13 of 13 ideas of our priorities
Plastic-free Bishopston
Taking inspiration from Penzance, the first place with plastic-free coastline status, we need to work with residents and businesses in the ward to reduce the use of single-use plastic and aim for our own accreditation!

Keep Bishopston Tidy
When going out for a walk, take a carrier bag with you and pick up any obvious litter you see and leave it at a rubbish bin for collection by the Local Authority

20 is Plenty Campaign
To campaign for a permanent 20 mph limit on the main road in Bishopston, including outside the school gates. Not only will this have benefiits for the pedestrians but there is a wealth of evidence for this improving air quality and having a positive impact on health.

Eco Youth Council at Gower Roundhouse
To provide a base for a 'Gower youth council' at Gower Unearthed's new roundhouse facility at Parkmill. The incentive is to create a community hub for Gower ward that provides young people with a project and a voice that allows them to have an active part in their community-with an environmental focus. The main objective is to provide courses and activities to educate or help young people actively protect their local environment and heritage.

Annual litter pick
I think it would be a brilliant idea if the community did an annual littler pick we could get volunteers every Sunday afternoon at about 2pm to come and do a litter pick!

Run a Portable Environment School on Mansel Green, Murton
A portable skills school that is aimed at people of all ages but especially the young, offering practical skills training and knowledge to enable a person of any age to understand and do something practical and take action on the climate emergency.
Mansel Green offers lots of opportunities:
- To provide an example of what we should be doing to produce fuel and materials to replace coal, oil and natural gas: e.g. woodland management which involves coppicing with standard trees and pollarding.
- Hedgelaying, around the village to provide windbreaks, nature habitat and create a thing of beauty.
-Plastic free learning hub: learn how to grow and harvest willow and then weave your own plastic free containers.out of willow. Which is what we did before the overuse of plastic.
- Learn scything, how to mow the grassland without using fossil fuels, and control invasive bracken and bring back wildflowers and plants.
On other sites in Murton learn how to grow food and fibres using carbon negative horticulture, building up Carbon in the soil while growing our food using 'a no dig system'. (google regenerative agriculture and look at Soil4Climate facebook page.)
This is a place to talk, and learn from each other and equip ourselves with what we need now and the coming years. A place to find like minded people who care about whats happening with the environment.

Traffic speeding.
To combat speeding traffic through our village and on both Fairwood and Clyne Commons once and for all we need a vehicle registration electronic recognition device fitted to the speed signs so that anyone exceeding that limit has an automatic fine and penalty points. Anyone identified as exceeding the national speed limit through our village and on the two commons should receive an automatic ban in acknowledgement of this being as dangerous as drinking and driving,

Improved road signage on the Gower commons
The dilapidated and missing signage at the entrances to the Gower commons needs to be replaced urgently!
The existing signage was funded and installed by the Gower Commons initiative in circa 1998 and are now badly in need of replacement.
New signs will warn drivers of free roaming livestock and Animals crossing the roads.
They will beed to be placed near each Cattlegrid on Fairwood, Pengwern and Cefn Bryn where possible.
Hopefully this will raise awareness of the animals, slow traffic and reduce animal deaths.
There have been 9 animal deaths since the beginning of December 2019 already!
Please vote for this initiative and help make the Gower roads safer for everyone.
